A lovely day for gardening

It's hard to believe that it's nearly October, the weather is absolutely gorgeous and I've had a busy time in the garden so far today. I've been trimming and transplanting strawberries, taken down my fruit cage netting, dug up an Eryngium and planted rooted pieces of it in a different area in the garden. I'm not overly keen on the plant but Tony likes it and the bees love the flowers so it's staying.  It's going to be a bit of a nuisance for a few years as it will keep popping up in the new veg plot. I need to get some cardboard and cover that area. With a bit of luck I can weaken it enough to kill it off there.

The radish pods have grown big enough to give me a small picking for the salads and I will plant some  purely for the pods next year.

Another thing I intend to do from now on is to leave the spring onions in the ground for a lot longer.  They grow really big if left alone and are great for cooking. I use the whole thing including the green part and need to do a taste test to see how they compare with leeks.

  1. Hello Cherie, what a great idea eating the radish seeds pods! I have discarded those in the past. I've just looked it up & I'm sure I must have eaten them in Indian food (called Moongra / Mogri) x
