Earlier in the growing season I thought I would have a massive harvest of pumpkins as the vine was smothered in baby fruit. They all dropped off except for one and yesterday I harvested it. I had noticed the other day that the stalk was no longer green and intended to cut it then but forgot. When I did harvest it the stalk simply pulled out of the ground with no resistance at all so I'm glad I cut it when I did. I've never grown pumpkins before so need to go and have a look on You tube to see how I go about curing it.
I've just had a wander around my veggie garden and taken a few photos. The winter sown tomatoes are doing really well with no sign of blight so far.. keeping my fingers crossed for them.
The courgettes continue to amaze me with their rapid growth. I can easily see how they would quickly turn into a marrow if you left them too long

The gladioli have flowered in succession for weeks now and make a lovely addition to our salads. It's another thing I wish I had know is edible as I gave away dozens of gladioli blubs last year. The great thing is that I only need to take one or two flowers off the stalk and leave the rest to add colour to the garden
Gladioli are lovely in salads |
Our poor apple tree is absolutely weighed down with fruit. I had assumed that loads would drop off in June but clearly not enough did. These apples ripen in October and are a lovely crisp sweet but ever so slightly tart variety.

The golden purslane is another thing I had never grown before and it's been a great addition to our salads. I have no idea how long it will go on producing shoots but it looks pretty darn healthy right now.
That's a nice looking pumpkin Cherie. My hurdle over apple tree was creaking under the weight of its apples. One twist and they all came off in my hand. Although desert apples, some are destined for a pie :) Steve's perennial kale looks reet good. Lulu x
ReplyDeleteI've never grown or eaten pumpkin before so we are looking forward to trying it.
