Just enough for two people

It's bitterly cold this morning but bright enough for a quick whip around the veg plot. I've cleared away some dead leaves and turned out a pot of potatoes.  There's just enough for us both and I'm delighted as they were simply hairy spuds from the veggie rack that I popped into pots in late August just to see if anything would grow.  The carrots are little thinning's but they are on the naughty list as I've noticed there's a bit of carrot fly in some of them. I will keep an eye on that tub and maybe just discard them all. It was only a very old packet of carrot seed that I was on the point of throwing out so it's nothing lost really. The sprout leaves look gorgeous and I'll shred and steam them. The swede isn't particularly big but plenty big enough for us both and the Jerusalem Artichokes have been a real joy.  They are definitely on the nice list from now on.

It'll soon be time for me to think about a planting layout as I want to change some things around this coming year.

The plot right now

The lettuce and beetroot leaves look beautiful

I'll be picking a few good hearty winter salads next week as my body can only take so much of the very unhealthy but delicious goodies that I've been eating theses past few weeks. The lettuce look amazing and the contrast against the red of the beetroot leaves is gorgeous. I want to plant a bit more decoratively at the back end of the summer next year. Especially the beds closest to the house as I love looking out over my little plot. I realise that the hardest part of winter is still in front of us but somehow it won't feel as bad now that the shortest day has passed and the light levels will start to creep back up

  1. That's a nice little winter veggie haul Cherie. The 'naughty list' tickled me. Lulu x
