Veg garden update

It's a beautiful morning so I've been outside making the most of the sunshine. It's not quite high enough in the sky to reach much of the back garden but I wrapped up nice and warm  and spent the past hour having a thoroughly lovely time working out there. I've got the gutter garden ready to plant and this afternoon when the sun reaches the patio the compost will warm up enough for me to plant some bone hardy veg.  I need to look through my seed store to see what I want to plant this year. The spring onions and radish did really well at the early part of last year and then later on I sowed golden purslane and dwarf Greek Basil  but I want to see what else will grow there.  I've used the cream and yoghurt cartons to give a bit more root depth just as I did last year.

The Brussels sprout shoot experiment seems ok so far.  Nothing has turned up its toes and died

I have flowers on some of  the overwintered radishes and I'm hoping for a nice early crop of pods if the weather warms up a touch.  They were a lovely addition to the salads boxes last year and I intend to plant a whole load just for the pods.

The purple sprouting broccoli is absolutely gorgeous. It's as sweet and tender as anything

The seedlings that I have got growing in the porch are coming along a real treat. I lift some of them out at night as they wouldn't do very well in the cold night time temperatures.  It's not heated at all so I do need to be a bit cautious.

  1. A happy hour in the garden's better than any prescription the doctor can give. Your gutter garden is fab Cherie. I think I need something like that, high up, away from the mutant Cornish snails :0 x
