It's a lovely start to the day here and I'll be heading out for a potter around the garden soon to make the most of the nice weather. I have one more week before I start my main sowing and potting on as I don't have a lot of indoor space or grow lights. The seedlings in the porch are coming along a treat and by the middle of next week I'll move a lot of them out into my mini greenhouse .They can spend a bit longer out there and then they'll be planted into one of the raised beds. The beetroot plants are for leaves and not the bulbs as we find them a far more useful and productive cop if we use the leaves in salads. Any bulbs that do form are an added bonus.

Yesterday I popped a piece of corrugated plastic over the top of the planting box just to give a bit of protection. It's only held in place with four small pieces of cane so needs a 'bungee strap' fixing.
The little spring bulbs border is looking really pretty though the camera hasn't quite picked it up
This pretty little display is growing in a piece of water butt. It's only about six inches high and looks so pretty in the sunshine. There's a couple of lettuce in there and as soon as all the spring flowers have died away I'll top it up with compost and plant some more edibles straight over the top of the bulbs.
The sun is only part way up the big hedgerow at this time of the day this early in the year but it's getting higher in the sky each day. The hedge doesn't shade the garden at any time of day thank goodness and is nice to look out onto. By 10am it shines onto the garden so I can sit outside in the warmth and plan my raised bed planting.
We picked up a load more pallets the other day and later today with a bit of luck they'll get a lick of pale green preservative... the shade of green is called willow if we want to be precise about the colour.
Oh I am so happy I found your blog, even though I am across the pond in California. I will be growing vegetables this year, if my water doesn't get cut off. We're in a severe drought and water rationing might get very hard this summer.
ReplyDeleteI love your garden area. looks like mine. Although it needs some cleanup.
Happy Gardening!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I've been across and had a look at your lovely blog and will drop by often.
