Planting a grape vine

I've no idea if we are just a bit too far north but tomorrow I am going out to buy a grape vine to plant in my garden.  Yesterday I created a space at the back of my mini fruit orchard and I've put a half water butt which I filled with a mix of compost and well rotted reindeer poo. I want to put a couple of strong canes and attach it to the top of the pergola. The intention if it grows is to weave it back and forth underneath the pergola which Tony covered in corrugated plastic a few years ago. It's warm, sheltered and really sunny there so has a fair chance of  surviving.

Then Tony and I created a space at the garage wall end of the garden. It's very sheltered but doesn't get the sun until mid afternoon so perfect for growing kale, chard, lettuce etc. This space had simply been covered in plastic, filled with pebbles and had been used as a storage area for bricks and bits of old sandstone so it's a bit compacted and quite wet where the water hasn't been able to soak away. I put a load of twiggy branches and some half rotted compost then topped it all off with some local authority green waste compost. I'll do a little video when I get back from my walk this morning so that I can record the progress.
