It's harvest time

I've had a busy few days harvesting and processing veggies lately.  This morning I pickled three jars of beetroot and if I have any more worth picking in the back garden I'll get some more done. The tomato glut is going crazy and my freezer is full of all manner of chunky tomato sauce bases.  Two of my courgettes have worn themselves out so I cut them down and they are now making compost.  I want to get out into the garden this afternoon and refresh the big tubs that they were growing in. I've been striking cuttings of all manner of shrubs which can overwinter before being potted on and sold next year. The back garden tomatoes might be coming out this weekend as I need to get the beds ready for my kale plants. It's still lovely and sunny out there but it won't be long before the sun drops down behind the houses and we won't see it again until next February.

  1. My tomatoes are still doing rather well too. Ripening is slower and I'm tending to pick them when they start showing colour and letting them ripen inside.
I'm leaving my plants in until October and the I will have a blitz and deal with them all then. I think it is a year for green tomato chutney!

    1. I've dealt with loads of tomatoes this morning and haven't made a start on the main ones in the back garden yet. I'm going to make some jars of passata to use some of them up.

  2. You are organised Cherie with the pickling. Have you tried pickled courgette chutney? May the roots of your shrub cuttings be fervent and strong x

    1. My courgettes weren't as productive this year but maybe I'll give that chutney a try next year.
