Using mirrors

The leeks that I sowed the other day are just starting to sprout. I don't want them to get all spindly and leggy so I have pinched the hall mirror and stood it behind the potting area.  It's reflecting light back onto the plants so with a bit of luck they might develop nice strong stems. It's surprisingly warm today and I didn't need my coat while out walking at 07:15. Due to covid we are allowed one period of outdoor exercise. That's my walk done for the day so I'm off to do a bit of housework before heading out into the garden to have a general tidy up and prep a couple of the raised beds ready for the start of the growing season.

  1. Hi, a bit of moving air from a small fan will strengthen your stems. Also turning the trays will help, your mirror is a great idea!

    1. I have started dusting across the seedling tops very gently with a feather duster.

  2. I agree with Sandi - movement of the stems helps them strengthen and turning them will also help - but I do agree the mirror is a good idea :D

    1. I'm amazed at how quickly they are coming along. I plan to sow some more next month and try my hand at successional sowing to see if I can prolong the harvest

  3. I sing to my seedlings, and stroke them... when no one's around. Lulu x
