It's all starting to take off

It's that time of year again when we gardeners fill every windowsill to overflowing with seedlings and plant cuttings. My mini greenhouse has two shelves filled with a variety of multi sown veggies and my bedroom windowsill and porch are filled with seedlings. These are all the cold hardy roots and brassicas so we should be eating really well later this year. At the moment we are still eating leaves from the sprouts, chard, kale, beetroot and radish. The beetroot and radish have overwintered really well when you bear in mind that it's been an exceptionally cold winter. I doubt they will form much in the way of  veggies now and I will start all over again planting them when the current seedlings are strong enough to go outdoors. For now the leaves from them make really good additions to the salads and yesterday there was the surprise of a tiny radish. It looked like a tiny jewel in the radish patch. Today feels a little warmer and looking ahead at the forecast fills me with hope that the temperatures are beginning to pick up a bit. I need to buy myself a decent weight of fleece just to give the plants a bit of protection in case of a cold snap after they have been hardened off and planted into my raised beds

  1. Hello Cherie, I'm loving your window ledge style. Get 'em plants crammed in! What else do window ledges exist for? Lulu xXx
