Lovely and warm at last... Picture heavy post

Yesterday and today have been really great 'gardening weather' days.  I spent all day yesterday working in the garden and a good part of today.  The cucamelons and chillies are now outside and in the space of 36 hours I've seen a huge difference in the cucamelons. My Florence fennel are looking really strong and healthy and I'm hoping to get a nice crop from them. I've never grown them before so it will be interesting to see how they compare with shop bought bulbs. I have a 'surprise me' brassica bed.  The labels had all faded in the sun so I have no idea what they are going to be.  There's sprouts, kale and a couple of varieties of cabbage but goodness knows which one is which at the moment. My Tom Thumb pumpkin plants are starting to put on a growth spurt and I'm looking forward to seeing how they come on this summer.

Chillies in pots
The scent from the white Dianthus is absolutely lovely

Radish the size of golf balls

I found a tub of radish that I had tucked away behind a large pot and they are enormous compared to my usual pickings.  I expected them to be really woody so was pleasantly surprised to find that they are sweet and tasty and not at all woody.
The lupins are starting to look really pretty next to the pond

Pretty little trailing petunias

Pumpkin 'Tom Thumb'

everything is looking really healthy

The chard is just about finished
I have purple sprouting broccoli ready to take over as soon as the chard have finished

I had some spare sweetcorn so have popped them into this half
water butt with a 'surprise me' brassica. It looks like it might be a red cabbage

I don't know if it's a good idea to put the corn in with the brassica but I didn't want to just throw it away
Rosemary smothered in flowers. The bees are loving it

Bluebells under the hedge. I keep pulling them out as even though
they are pretty they become a real nuisance

Mixed brassicas and radish in a half water but.  I'm being a bit ambitious but the
radish will be finished soon and then they can have the tub all to themselves.

Perennial onions in the corner. Spinach in front. Last of the red kale at the back.

The onions are coming along nicely and really starting to swell up now

Garlic

Hosta

Three hostas

Even more hostas

The experiment bed.  Loads of different things sown in here just because
I had loads of old seeds.
I have onions, lettuce, kale, beetroot, radish, turnips and three sickly looking tomatoes. I'm giving the tomatoes a chance before I pull them out and replace them

Chillies on the left and the cucamelons in front of the trellis... Give them chance and they will romp up that trellis..... I hope.

  1. I can smell that Dianthus from here Cherie! I'd love bluebells. I have tried to grow them from seed in the past, with no success :0 Do you eat your hosta leaves? I've never fancied it with all the slug activity, but yours look super healthy. I sincerely hope there is a cocktail waiting for those cucamelons. Lulu x
