Cabbage update

Look at this gorgeous harvest freshly picked this morning. We've just had the corn as a starter and it was absolutely scrummy. The cabbage has gone home with Alexander and Beckah as we are going for tea  at their house tomorrow. The tomatoes and cucamelons will go into salads this coming week. I might start to dry some of the chillies that I collect this week as they seem to be turning red quite quickly now

And speaking of cabbages just look at this beautiful red one. I've taken the corn stalks out of the tub so it now has the whole space to itself. Hopefully it will enjoy being on its own.

And look how much the 'regrown cabbage' has grown  since last week.  I cut the head of cabbage for dinner and left the stalk in the tub to see if it would regrow. I'm staggered at how much leaf it has put on in a week and even if they don't form hearts they will still taste amazing

This is how this one looks today and I'll update it next week to see how it gets on

And this is the stalk left over from the cabbage that I harvested today. I didn't cut a cross in this one so it will be interesting to see how the growth compares

And another red cabbage coming along nicely. I'm fighting a daily battle with cabbage white butterflies though. Every day I check over the brassicas and remove the clusters of yolk yellow eggs. A few have been missed and hatched into caterpillars but I can't find the little terrors that are nibbling holes in the cabbages. Flee beetle has been quite a problem too and the leaves on some of the swede look like lace curtains

  1. Your red cabbage looks too good to eat Cherie! And those regrown ones - wow! Brilliant and well worth doing it 'eh. The pesky cabbage whites have taken over my nasturtium patch, as they do every year :0 Little beelzebuggers. Lulu x

    1. I'm planning on growing nasturtiums and pansies next year. I want an edible flower bed to add colour to the salads.
