I'm trying a little experiment to see how many cabbages I can regrow after harvesting some. I didn't pull them out of the ground but cut them off leaving several leaves and a longish stalk. I cut a cross into each of them and just look at the result already

Five potential baby cabbages on this one |
 |
Five on this one too |
 |
The half water butt that I planted them all in is full of cabbages
|
I've already harvested three cabbages from the tub and there's still two left. Not bad from a smallish space. I harvested loads of radish too before the cabbage swamped them
 |
Nothing on this one yet but give it a little more time |
If I remember I will try and do a weekly update to keep track of their progress.
How clever. I've not come across that before and will be very interested in how it goes. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm trying a similar thing with the Florence fennel. I've done it before with celery and had a really good crop.
DeleteLooks great! Does the cut cross force more florets Cherie? Lulu x
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure but will be cutting a cabbage for tea and I'll leave it without a cross to see if it makes any difference. x
