Chilly start to the day

It's a bit grey and cloudy this morning and it's blimmin cold too. My runners have slowed right down now and the courgettes are slowing down though thankfully there are plenty of them still to come. I'm delighted that we are getting plenty of cucumbers as I didn't know if the plants would die after I cut all the grotty leaves from the plants.  I have three decent sized cucumbers on the three plants and plenty of little ones growing nicely.  With a bit of luck they will fly away if the promised warmer weather appears next week.  They last really well in the fridge so we will certainly be eating them for the next few weeks.

The hostas in the big tubs are starting to look a bit tatty and as soon as they have died back I am going to stand a large plant pot on a saucer inside each tub. It won't affect the hostas and will give me another eight big tubs that can grow lovely winter veggies.  I'll remove them next spring before the hostas start to emerge from their winter sleep.  I'm hoping the cold weather doesn't affect the tomatoes too much as there are loads of fruit still to pick

In the porch the bell peppers and long ones are coming along nicely though it's starting to get quite cool of a night time so I am hoping that they will ripen before it turns really cold.

  2. Here in Chicagoland in the US, we finally have some temperate temperatures, though it has been so dry here---everything pretty much shut down. We may have another 6-8 weeks of growing, but I believe the cucumbers are totally done, and we pulled up all the tomatoes, they were dropping unripe fruit on the ground and drying up, despite religously watering. Your peppers look wonderful, I think we may get one on each plant, this year, sadly. Fun to read what your little plot is producing!
