I've just wandered around the veggie plot collecting ingredients for our salads and was delighted to find some fresh pea pods that I hadn't noticed. I'd been growing the peas for shoots and hadn't noticed them developing. I'm in two minds whether to pick the last tomatoes and ripen them indoors before the weather changes.

Tony is having steak pie and chips for his tea tonight so I made an extra salad box for me. The other two boxes are for our lunch tomorrow... all home grown veg. Tomatoes, cucumber, golden purslane, dwarf Greek basil, rainbow chard, curly kale, Tuscan kale, kalette leaves, sprout leaves, celery, fresh peas including the pods, tiny radish and spring onion thinning's and Florence fennel. I like to include the stalks from the various leaves and the young leaves from the baby radish as they add a nice splash of colour and an extra bit of crunch.
I'm leaving my tomatoes out as long as I can. They're ripening faster again in all this sunshine, which is lovely.
ReplyDeleteFancy - fresh peas in September. Delicious!

I'm keeping an eye on the weather forecast as it's still nice and warm and i think I'll leave them as long as possible.
