Bursa Figs

Just before Christmas I had the most deliciously juicy fig so kept a few seeds from it.  I left them to dry on the kitchen windowsill for a week or two before I sowed them in a small pot. I made a pot cover from a lemonade bottle and have kept a close eye on the pot to see if the seeds would sprout... They have and though you can't see them all there are five starting to shoot in the pot. Of course I have no idea whether any will produce fruit and even if they do it may well be a few years but I plan on taking really good care of them.

I've currently got some red currant seeds that I saved. They are in the fridge in a small tub and I am planning on sowing them pretty soon too. If they grow then I'll do a bit of guerrilla gardening and plant them in the far corner of a field close to where I live.  A gentleman has planted a mixed variety of fruit trees there and only a very few people know this.  There's quite a good secret mini fruit orchard that can only get better over the years.

  2. Oooh, I love the gorilla gardening Cherie!!! How impressive about the fig seeds sprouting. My wee Brunswick Fig has just spent its first year in the fig pit. It hasn't done anything spectacular yet, but fingers crossed it puts on a bit more growth this year (if I haven't restrained the roots too much!). Lulu xXx
