Growing things hard

Late last year I threw a handful of peas into some big plant pots and put them on the front garden.  I did the same with a sprinkling of lettuce seeds.  They've sat out in the cold and wet all the way through winter and everything that the weather has thrown at them.  This morning I've transplanted them into some spare space on one of the veg beds .

I've dotted the lettuce around the bed below and planted the peas in two short rows. The last of the cabbages and kale in this bed will be coming out soon as we have far too much to use up and I want to start getting the bed ready for other things

The sprout shoots that I planted yesterday look perky this morning and I've cut some of the leaves off to give them a better chance.  I also took another sprout shoot and have pushed it into the same tub.

I transplanted a load of strawberry runners into this bed last year and there's a few small swede to use up before I can get the bed ready for a new planting scheme. I use the chimney pot as a mini compost bin/worm farm. The amount of worms in there is staggering and all the goodness that they are creating can seep into the strawberry bed.

In the bed below is a whole mix of veggies but in truth I didn't plan it very well and we've not taken much from it.  I'll use the space far better this year

The kalettes and sprouts have stood up well to both storms and they will be feeding us for weeks to come.  I've noticed that the kale is starting to go to seed but we'll eat the flower buds and flowers in salads as they taste lovely and sweet and look ever so pretty in salads.

I've stopped for a cuppa now as there's not really much more I can do outside. I might pot on some seedlings today.
