Foraged fruit

In my neighbourhood we have an abundance of fruit trees and anyone is free to pick the fruit from them.... But they don't.  Most years I manage to pick apples, cherries, plums, pears, greengages, blackberries and elderberries.  Today my friend and I picked cherries and I've just washed and stoned most of them. I've left some on the kitchen worktop with their stalks on for snacking. Tomorrow we plan on collecting some more as our neighbourhood is awash with cherries.

Before you make a start stoning the cherries make sure you wear your apron made from a carrier bag... You do have one don't you  :-)

Bring out the cherry stoner and make a start...... it's tedious so you might need a glass of wine to keep you company

One down another kilo to go.... one at a time  yawnnnnnnnnnn.

I'm going out again tomorrow and hoping to pick loads for the freezer. We'll be making cherry brandy as soon as we buy some brandy.   It'll be lovely and tasty by Christmas.

  1. Do you make your cherry brandy like I make the fruit gin - brandy, fruit and sugar?

    1. Exactly the same Joy. Make sure to stone the cherries and then you can toss them into boozy trifles, truffles, whipped cream etc.

    1. The cherries are quite small this year as we just haven't had enough rain.
