Oh my goodness the weather has been far too hot. I'm amazed that the garden looks so fresh and green though I do keep watering. Thank goodness we aren't on a water meter as our bills would be eye watering. The harvests are coming thick and fast now and I'm starting to sow or plant the winter veggies as and when space appears. This afternoon I want to sow another patch of little Chantenay carrots in the hope of getting a crop at the back end of the year. They grow small and round rather than long and tapered so don't need such a long growing season and they taste gorgeous. I sowed another batch of courgette seeds a few weeks ago and one plant has survived the slugs so with a bit of luck my courgette season will extend into the Autumn. I want to leave one fruit to turn into a marrow later in the summer and in fact might try sowing a couple more just so that I do get a marrow or two as they store really well. The crystal lemon cucumber has been such a productive plant that I'll definitely grow them again next year. I want to grow some Marketmore next year too as I find they produce really well. I gave up on the White Wonder as they were so hit and miss. Most were as bitter as anything.

A bitter cucumber is such an unpleasant surprise, isn't it? I was thinking of you as I watered earlier - the more you grow, the more you have to water. :-) xx
ReplyDeleteI love watering thank goodness. :-)
DeleteGreat idea with the Chantenay carrots Cherie. Alas I am on a water meter, so myself and the garden are looking like a shriveled prune! :0 x
ReplyDeleteWe'll all look like raisins by Tuesday if the forecast is right. x
