Although I do tend to sow little and often right through spring, summer and autumn I do like to have a few 'big' sowing sessions. It's that time of year for me so I've been sowing spring onions and radish this morning and as soon as the forecasted heatwave passes I want to have a good look through my seed box and see what kind of things I can sow this month. The beetroot that I had grown for leaves has produced the most beautiful beets which I pickled yesterday. They'll make a lovely addition to our lunch time salads. It's quite ironic that when I have hoped for beets to pickle there was never much of a crop but when I intended them for leaves I have had lovely beets. A few weeks ago my cucumber were starting to look a bit tired so I sowed some more. They are just starting to produce tiny cucumbers and they will be very welcome addition to the salads. I'll compost the earlier plants as soon as the new ones are a useable size.
