Last night Tony reminded me that there was another pallet at the back of the log store so today we have taken a few pieces off it and put it on top of the square raised bed. I'm not planning on adding extra compost this year but it's easier for me to sit on the side of it and tend to the seedlings. I took down the wire frame and for the time being I've simply stretched some strawberry netting over to stop the local cat population using it as a toilet. My intention is to make a proper wood and wire frame to go over it at some point.

There is an early sowing of peas for the shoots and some spring onions growing nicely in the gutter garden |

Onions, garlic, sprouts, chard, curly kale, lettuce, broad beans and spinach |
The sprouts and curly kale will be finishing soon so I will be glad when other veg is ready to pick
Good that those pesky cats will now be thwarted in their attempts to put their big furry bottoms on your patch. I love pea shoots. I remember watching a programme with Alys Fowler and she used the dried frozen ones found in supermarkets, as they were much cheaper, and sprouted really well. Lulu x
ReplyDeleteThese are just a packet of dried marrowfat peas. I grew them last year and they were lovely as shoots.
