At long last we have had enough rain to leave a small puddle on the garden table cover. It's been ages since we last had anything of note and the ground was starting to look very dry. I've learned that I need to use the cloche covers a little more to bring the plants on and protect them from the cold nights that we have had lately. If the rain holds off today I will use some of the wire mesh fencing to create some cages to go over the different areas in the garden. I can throw polythene sheeting over the top and create mini polytunnels when the weather is looking a bit harsh. My poor camellia is very frost burnt. It looks as though the flowers are orange and it clearly needs a fleece cover to give it a bit of protection. We are hoping for a good crop of apples though as the tree is smothered in blossom. The new pear tree duo is pushing out new shoots but my fig isn't showing any signs of life yet. I'm hoping I haven't killed the poor thing.

We've not had rain here and the gardens at work and mine at home are parched!
ReplyDeleteWe could do with a proper downpour to reach deep into the earth and give the plant roots a real drink. It's ages since we have had rain like that.
DeleteYour apple blossom is looking wonderful Cherie. My lawn is all hard and yellow, poor thing. Fingers crossed for the pear! x
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to having fresh pears in a couple of years time. We'd move further south but love the lush green that we have up north.
