I'm hoping for a good crop of apples this year as the tree is awash with blossom. The bees and all manner of flying insects have been enjoying a feast of pollen. The fragrance from the yellow wallflowers is absolutely gorgeous when we sit in the sun next to it

The picture below is my little experimental bed. I'm being really ambitious as I want to see just how much produce I can pick from it over the next few months. I sowed lettuce, beetroot, turnips, onions and radish for quick results and. I'm already harvesting radish for both the leaf and the radish itself. The little plastic caps sit on top of some parsnip seed to remind me that I have planted some there. I want to grow tomatoes up the supports by the middle of next month. Next to the brick wall I have planted Calendula. I want to dry the flowers and use them in my cooking.
In the first bed below, the peas for shoots are growing well. The spring onions and radish will grow quite quickly now that it's warmed up a bit.
This next bed has onions, garlic, lettuce, sprouts, kale, beetroot, rainbow chard and broad beans, I have picked lettuce, sprout, chard , beetroot and kale leaves right through the winter and the sprout stalks are just about stripped bare. I've had a smashing harvest from them and can't wait until this years crop is ready to harvest
More kale, beetroot, lettuce, onions, rainbow chard and sprouts in this bed
Tubs filled with lettuce and onions. I have picked leaves from the lettuce for months and they are still going strong. I'm so pleased at how much produce we have eaten from the garden this past year. It's amazing to see just how much you can grow in a small space if you plan it well. Each of the long beds is about ten feet by three feet.
Wow, you've got lots of choice there. Beetroot and beans are my favourites and I grow loads of them.
ReplyDeleteApple blossom really is the best isn't it. So beautiful. I'm loving your blue half barrel pots. I got a couple from freecycle a few years ago, but haven't been so lucky since. Your garden is looking very productive Cherie. This may be the weekend my kids' hula hoops mysteriously disappear ..... Lulu x
