Vegetable Garden and seed sowing update

The sun is at last starting to feel warm and my little greenhouse is worth it's weight in gold.  I've had it more than twenty years and had initially only used it for hardening seedlings before planting out.  This year I have used it for seed sowing.

Sweetcorn and calendula

Rainbow chard, Florence fennel and orphan brassicas

The peas for shoots are coming along really well.  I have sown them in pots and planters in different parts of the garden.  This is the raised bed made from pallets. The peas take up about half of the area as we love the shoots in salads. In the front half there are beetroot and radish coming along nicely

More peas for shoots

In the porch I have chilli, bell peppers, dwarf French beans, cucumbers and melons coming along nicely. With the exception of the dwarf beans the rest will be hardened off in the mini greenhouse before being planted outside in the warmest most sheltered spot in the garden
All manner of things growing in the porch

Chilli and bell peppers from saved seed

The lush green plants below are celery that I grew from the base plates of shop bought celery. I simply cut the stalks off and used them in salads. I left about an inch of stalk attached to the base plates and set them onto a saucer of water I have two plants and they will be getting hardened off and planted outside next month.

  1. The Chillies look happy in the porch Cherie. I need to pot mine on and start handing them out, as it is only me really that like the heat. I love pea shoots, so tasty. Lulu x

    1. If they all survive the great outdoors we will have a freezer full of chillis come the late summer. Good job we love chilli.

  2. Everything looks great, our greenhouse is full, but we have put a heater in there, and I've hesitated on transplanting seedlings from the kitchen! Crazy up and down weather!

    1. The freezing cold nights are still with us but hopefully they will be finished soon and I can start to move seedlings outdoors.
