I've sown three short rows of bolthardy beetroot this afternoon. I'm probably chancing my arm a bit but as we love the leaves it won't matter if we don't actually get any bulbs. My sweetcorn looks as though earwigs and woodlice are nibbling into them. I've been plagued with woodlice this year and they've had most of the strawberries. I've never had a problem with them before so this is a new pest to me. One of our big tubs of hosta had finished so I cut them right down to the ground and popped four biggish pots into the space. I've added rainbow chard seedlings to the pots and it should make a colourful display in the colder months as well as providing us with leaves for winter salads.
