My new raised planter.

Tony's been busy these past few days making me another raised planter and creating another pallet/bottle garden. I've made a start filling the bottles and sowing veggie seeds and tomorrow we'll get some more compost to fill the new raised planter. It measures 6ft 5 by twenty inches and is about seven inches deep so plenty big enough for lettuce and other shallow rooted veggies. The trestle legs were rescued from my neighbour's skip.. It's so true what they say about one man's rubbish being useful to someone else isn't it.

I still can't get over how quickly the lettuce have grown and just how productive they are. The bottle/planter garden is looking lovely at the back of the lettuce bed and hopefully will shade the hottest part of the day off them in the summer months.

I've had some of my seedlings outside today just to get them used to feeling the sun on their little faces.  They are all tucked back up in the porch for the night now. If it's nice tomorrow they can go out to play again for a little while.   My neighbour cut her lawn this afternoon and gave me all the grass cuttings to top up the raised beds.  They rot down to the most beautiful compost and will be lovely for growing veggies later in the season.  They don't take long to decompose and I keep turning them and shuffling them about with the hoe so that they dry quickly.

  1. Looks good - this week, my husband is supposed to build a raised planter for me with some scrap wood.
